Our Mission

Giving Back, Inc. -- a non-profit that sponsors the Help the Homeless Drive in Baltimore, Anne Arundel County and now Washington, DC -- is dedicated to aiding the homeless on many fronts. With the support of volunteers across the region, Giving Back, Inc. provides food, clothing, fellowship and programs aimed at encouraging self-respect and fostering self-empowerment. The program was founded more than 20 years ago by Linda Greenberg of Annapolis, who remains very involved.

Each Christmas, Help the Homeless volunteers distribute warm clothing, food, supplies, and toys on the streets of Baltimore. In 2006, Help the Homeless added Washington DC to the areas it supports. We will continue to grow in 2007 adding more shelters and street stops in Washington DC.

Giving Back, Inc. is a project of CDP a 501(c)3 non-profit that sponsors the Help the Homeless Drive in Baltimore, Anne Arundel County and now Washington, DC.

New for 2007!!!

For several years, now, people have asked me whether we are a "Faith Based Organization". I have always answered with a positive YES! But with a caveat...we are an organization made up of many faiths, who come together to help our neighbors in this world. It is amazing how people of different faiths, can come together, serve our God in this way, and celebrate each other along the way.Imagine, without even fighting or arguing with each other! The organization was started by Linda Greenberg, who has an incredibly deep faith based in the Hebrew Tradition, and is now run by a Presbyterian Elder. Doesn’t seem possible, does it?

So what are we going to do that is new? We start each day at the collection site with a prayer, we pray to start and finish each meeting, and we pray before we go on our deliveries. This year, we will bring our prayer to the streets. We will designate specific people for both the morning and evening deliveries, to pray with the men and women we meet on the streets. I have some really wonderful ideas about this, and am excited to share it with you all. But picture this…Standing on a street in Baltimore, 9 pm Christmas Eve, and witnessing 6 pair of teenagers praying with 6 different men or women who may be sleeping in a shelter or on the street. How powerful an image! I have chills just typing this, and it makes me wish it were Christmas Eve already!

Several years ago we broke new ground with our backpack program. I believe our new Street Ministry will be an even more significant innovation in achieving our Mission. If you want to be a part of this, please contact me by email or phone.
